Pen­sioner ap­pears in court charged with man’s mur­der

A PEN­SIONER charged with the mur­der of a pop­u­lar 69-year-old made his first ap­pear­ance in crown court on Mon­day.

Odysseas Vafi­adis, 70, of Birch­dale, Ger­rards Cross, ap­peared at Read­ing Crown Court dur­ing a short pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing.

Vafi­adis, wear­ing a grey jumper, ap­peared via video link and spoke to con­firm his name.

He has been charged in con­nec­tion with the death of Paul David­son, from Lans­down Road, Chal­font St Peter, who died at his home on Mon­day, Novem­ber 9, fol­low­ing an al­leged as­sault three days ear­lier on Novem­ber 6.

The date for a plea and trial prepa­ra­tion hear­ing has been set for De­cem­ber 11, with a trial date pen­cilled in for April 4 next year. No ap­pli­ca­tion for bail was made.

He was ar­rested on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 11 and charged the fol­low­ing day.

He ap­peared at High Wy­combe Mag­is­trates Court on Fri­day, Novem­ber 13, when he did not en­ter a plea.
