Hos­pi­tal in need of pa­tient driv­ers

A HOS­PI­TAL is on the look­out for vol­un­teers to help drive bug­gies to trans­port pa­tients around its site.

Wex­ham Park Hos­pi­tal will soon own two elec­tric bug­gies which will help drive peo­ple with mo­bil­ity prob­lems when they are at the hos­pi­tal.

Frim­ley Health vol­un­teers’ man­ager Mike Stone said: “We are really look­ing for­ward to tak­ing de­liv­ery of the bug­gies and are sure they will be a valu­able as­set for our pa­tients and visi­tors who find get­ting around a bit of a chal­lenge.

“To help us pro­vide the ser­vice, we are look­ing for vol­un­teers with a spe­cial set of skills.

“Not only will they need ex­cel­lent driv­ing skills with a full, clean driv­ing li­cence, but also good lis­ten­ing and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills, along with the abil­ity to demon­strate em­pa­thy, com­pas­sion and a will­ing­ness to help oth­ers.”

To be­come a buggy driver, vol­un­teers will need to com­plete a train­ing ses­sion and an as­sess­ment to be­come a reg­is­tered elec­tric ve­hi­cle driver within the hos­pi­tal trust.

They will also need to work at least four hours a week be­tween the hours of 9am to 4pm, Mon­day to Fri­day, for a min­i­mum of one year.

Mr Stone said: “We hope that peo­ple in our lo­cal com­mu­nity will step for­ward and vol­un­teer for this role.”
