Beedell brothers take top two places at Herbert’s Hole
THERE was a successful homecoming for the Beedell brothers at Sunday’s 23rd Herbert’s Hole Challenge.
Simon and Tom Beedell, both former Chesham residents, returned to the town to take part in the event, hosted by Chiltern Harriers.
And the siblings, who now compete for Woodford Green AC, finished within seconds of each other to claim first and second places in 38.28 and 38.30 respectively.
They were among 270 runners who took to the starting line then racing up the hill in Lowndes Park, before leaving for a circuit around part of the Pednor Valley and along Herbert’s Hole. Conditions were perfect for cross country running despite the previous day’s wet weather, and very good times were recorded by a high class field, with runners coming from far and wide.
Following the Beedells in was James Silvey, who took third place with a time of 39.07, while in the women’s competition, Gemma Bitaraf of Gade Valley Harriers was victorious with 46.04 and she was joined on the podium by Angela Trusser of Watford Harriers and Mairead O’Rourke of Mornington Chasers (47.19 and 47.46, respectively).
The host club took second place in both the men’s and women’s team competitions, with Gade Valley Harriers beating them both times.
