Conversion plan for the former Wild Rover site
Developer tries again to turn disused pub into a car sales business
A SECOND attempt is being made to turn a former pub into a car sales business.
A planning application to convert the Wild Rover, in Amersham Road, Chesham, into an area for car sales, as well as one residential flat with parking, has been submitted to Chiltern District Council (CDC).
It is similar to an application submitted last year, which was refused by the council’s planning committee in October 2014 for several reasons, including loss of a community facility and highway issues.
However, Chesham Town Council’s development control committee welcomed the previous application because councillors thought it would help keep car sales off the street, which they said is a ‘big problem’ in the town.
Chesham Town Council’s committee was set to discuss this new application on Monday evening and members of the public have until tomorrow to make any representations.
When the former application was discussed by Chiltern District Council’s planning committee last year, the case officer highlighted that the use had already started, to some degree, because cars were being stored and valeted on site.
However, they added there was no evidence sales were taking place on site.
As permission was refused, officers have continued to make sure car sales are not taking place and will serve an enforcement letter if appropriate.
A difference in this new application is that it says the business would be open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The previous application said the opening time would be 9am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
The Wild Rover ceased to operate as a pub in February 2011.
The applicant bought the pub in September 2013.
In 2013 plans to turn it into seven flats were rejected by CDC’s planning committee for reasons including loss of a public house, it being out of keeping with the street scene, the amenity areas having no privacy and being too close to the busy Amersham Road.
A decision is expected to be made on the Wild Rover next month.
People need to submit their comments on the application before tomorrow by visiting www. chiltern.gov.uk/ view planning applications and searching for application CH/2015/1923/FA.
