Engineering great futures
TWO pupils at Beaconsfield High School are celebrating after successfully achieving an engineering scholarship.
Year 12 students Martha Stevens and Phillippa Nunn applied for the Arkwright Scholarship in Engineering at the end of last year, having completed a GCSE in product design and resistant materials.
They were inspired to pursue an interest in engineering and went through a lengthy application process including and an exam and interview.
The pair’s achievements were celebrated earlier this month at the Arkwright Ceremony in London, and the students will benefit from a direct link with an engineering company.
Martha has been sponsored by the UK branch of the firm Siemens, and said: “It has been fantastic learning more about everything Siemens do since I was paired with them in late August.
“After meeting my mentors and other representatives from Siemens during half term, I am in the process of arranging various site visits and experiences that should help me to strengthen my knowledge and interest in engineering.”
She added: “Already the advice that Siemens representatives have given to me and the opportunities they have presented me with have been outstanding; I’m really looking forward to the next two years of my sponsorship with this fantastic company.”
