Brilliant day for tremendous 10 Maltman gymnasts
A QUINTET of Maltman School U11 girls were crowned national gymnastics champions in Tunbridge Wells recently.
The team (above left, pictured left to right) of Grace Short, Isabel Whitburn, OliviaRowan, Tara Sadleir and Claudia Mowat proved the golden girls of the group sequence class following a stylish, well executed routine.
And in a brilliant day for the Gerrards Cross-based school, their U10s team (above right) of Rebecca Nash-Steer, Haniya Glazebrook, Laura Richards, Emma Cunliffe and Sophie Schulen took silver in their equivalent class, missing gold by just 0.35 of a point. Both teams would also take bronze in the four-piece floor and vault category.
As well as the team accolades, the youngsters produced some excellent individual performances too with Sadleir receiving a special shield in recognition of achieving the highest individual score of the day on the floor (9.7), just a fraction ahead of Whitburn, who scored 9.6.
The above pair went on to share sixth place in the overall standings, while Shulen, Maltman’s youngest competitor at just eight was just behind them in a magnificent seventh.
