CHALFONT St Giles is set to be transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland on Saturday.

The festive season will be in full flow as Santa arrives for the annual Christmas lights switch on in the village.

Organisers are buzzing with excitement at the event, traditionally used to mark the beginning of the season. It is organised in conjunction with Business and Traders for Chalfont St Giles and Churches Together.

Kathleen Turner, who has been one of the organisers for about 10 years, said: “It should be good, Christmas fun.

“I do look forward to it, it’s good. It’s the start of the Christmas season.

“We just hope the weather stays fine. All the kids walk with their lanterns lit from school. They look forward to it.”

School children will begin the festivities at 5.50pm as they walk down from school with the lanterns before entertaining the crowds with carol singing on the Village Green at 6pm.

This will be followed by a countdown to switching on the Christmas tree lights.

At 6.30pm, Santa will arrive with gifts for all the children.

There will be food and drinks, plus stalls and supporters of village groups and charities, along with a merry-goround.
