Old Amersham

I have been very shocked to hear only yesterday of the untimely death of councillor Davida Allen.

As a former Languages lecturer at Amersham College I had the privilege and the joy of teaching Davida French some 35 years ago.

It is thanks to her that I found my dear friend Lilly, her neighbour on Stanley Hill, who, as my child minder, was a second mum to my two children and also unfortunately died at an early age.

I always kept in touch with Davida, often bumping into her when she was cycling down Stanley Hill and I was cycling up.

My French family also stayed with her for the wedding of my daughter six years ago and I last spoke to her in the summer when we talked about speed restrictions in Old Amersham.

Everyone is right, she was a champion of important local issues and always put others first.

The district council and the community will have lost an extremely valuable member we will all miss.

I will certainly miss our ‘waving hands’ and exchange of smiles when our cycling paths cross.

My most sincere condolences to her children and family.
