Young chess fans take on Ro­tary com­pe­ti­tion

A TO­TAL OF 54 Chil­dren took part in the an­nual Mis­bourne Matins Ro­tary Club chess com­pe­ti­tion on Sun­day Novem­ber 29 af­ter­noon.

Held at Thorpe House School, Ger­rards Cross, Mary Lee from lo­cal solic­i­tors Hines – who spon­sored the event – pre­sented T-shirts and other good­ies.

The com­pe­ti­tion was run on be­half of the Ro­tar­i­ans by Ray Say­ers of the Buck­ing­hamshire Youth Chess As­so­ci­a­tion and Vas­sos Ge­or­giou and his col­leagues from the Ger­rards Cross Chess Club.

Or­gan­is­ers said in­creas­ing pop­u­lar­ity the

of chess in pri­mary school age groups is a credit to Vas­sos and Ray, and that while ca­pac­ity had al­ready been ex­tended from 40 play­ers last year to 50, an­other four play­ers were ac­com­mo­dated as well.
