Young chess fans take on Rotary competition
A TOTAL OF 54 Children took part in the annual Misbourne Matins Rotary Club chess competition on Sunday November 29 afternoon.
Held at Thorpe House School, Gerrards Cross, Mary Lee from local solicitors Hines – who sponsored the event – presented T-shirts and other goodies.
The competition was run on behalf of the Rotarians by Ray Sayers of the Buckinghamshire Youth Chess Association and Vassos Georgiou and his colleagues from the Gerrards Cross Chess Club.
Organisers said increasing popularity the
of chess in primary school age groups is a credit to Vassos and Ray, and that while capacity had already been extended from 40 players last year to 50, another four players were accommodated as well.
