Second store is a real collector's item for shoppers

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - BUSINESS -

Collector Dale Tames has been trading in Chesham for 37 years.

He ran a market stall in Chesham, Amersham and Tring for 20 years selling items such as paperback books, videos and records before he decided to open his own shop, called Collector's Paradise, in High Street in 1998.

As well as having the shop, Mr Tames carried on running his market stalls until 1990 when he decided to focus all his attention on his shop, which is still going strong today.

He said: “I've survived three recessions since I opened the shop all thanks to my customers. I've never ever thought about giving up the business, I love it. I've been selling records for 30 years now and I've never looked back, they are still selling well.

“I've seen so many shops come and go in my time here but I'm still here and still standing strong.”

Mr Tames' success has seen him recently open a second business next door, still called Collector's Paradise, in the former home of Axion Comics. The new shop sells items such as jewellery, China, antiques, football programmes and antiques while the original shop sells toys, DVDs, records and more.

Mr Tames said: “There's not many people who get to keep one shop, let alone get a second one! Ever since running my market stall I always said I wanted to pay back the people of Chesham and Amersham for supporting me, and this is my response to the help they've given me over the years. I wouldn't be here today without my customers.

“I'm looking forward to seeing how the new shop goes, especially over Christmas time. It's a big step for me to take, but if you don't go for it you won't find out.”
