Plants help light up festive fundraiser
MORE than £765 was raised for a Macmillan Cancer Support charity at an annual event held at Pinewood Nurseries.
Guests were overawed by the sight of 50,000 home grown illuminated red poinsettias in a two acre greenhouse, and they enjoyed turkey sandwiches and a glass of fizz as they listened to seasonal music performed by local group, The Stoke Poges Singers.
Marie Jackson, one of the directors of Pinewood Nurseries, said: “We do enjoy this festive event and for the first time ever we were able to illuminate the poinsettias, thanks to the lighting supplied by Karen and the team at Event Perfect in Chesham.
“Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that means a lot to us and we are pleased to be able to help to fundraise.”
Raffle prizes were donated by several businesses and included beauty therapy, golf lessons and monthly family memberships at the Nuffield Health Gym.
Guests were also given the chance to order their Christmas turkey and to make the most of the shopping discounts available on the night.
Chairman of Gerrards Cross and District Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Group, Liz King, said: “There certainly was a festive feel to the evening, the Stoke Poges Singers performed a wide range of seasonal music from a stage within the illuminated poinsettia crop and were excellent.
“The poinsettias were a magnificent spectacle and guests seemed to take some of the Christmas spirit home with them. All of us say a huge thank you to the directors of Pinewood Nurseries for hosting this brilliant evening and for raising so much money for Macmillan Cancer Support.”
