From Amer­ica to Amer­sham

THE AMER­SHAM Ro­tary Club held a spe­cial lunchtime meet­ing ear­lier this month as Am­bas­sado­rial scholar Ju­lia Ayeni gave a pre­sen­ta­tion.

Ju­lia, from Sacra­mento, Cal­i­for­nia, is be­ing hosted by Amer­sham Ro­tary as she com­pletes her Mas­ters de­gree in Ur­ban Re­gen­er­a­tion at Univer­sity Col­lege Lon­don.

She is spon­sored by her lo­cal Ro­tary Club and Dis­trict in Amer­ica, and Amer­sham Ro­tar­ian Di­eter Shaw is her pri­mary point of con­tact in the Club and had ar­ranged for her to talk to mem­bers about her back­ground, her work in Lon­don and her as­pi­ra­tions for the fu­ture.

Or­gan­is­ers said her pre­sen­ta­tion was in­spir­ing and in­for­ma­tive and showed the qual­i­ties which Ro­tary seeks in help­ing to foster the de­vel­op­ment of young peo­ple who have the ca­pac­ity and drive to make a real im­pact in com­mu­nity mat­ters across the world.

Club pres­i­dent Chris Palmer also pre­sented a cheque for £500 to rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Chilterns MS Cen­tre.

Trus­tee Linda Oat­ley, and head of fundrais­ing Hannah Asquith, ex­pressed their thanks and con­firmed how im­por­tant such do­na­tions are to the work of the cen­tre.

On Fe­bru­ary 27, 2016, Ro­tary will host ‘An evening with John Humphreys’ in Dr Chal­lon­ers School.

This will be a char­ity fundrais­ing event and the renowned broad­caster and writer – To­day, Mas­ter­mind – will share with his au­di­ence some of his ex­pe­ri­ences in fifty years of be­ing on the air.

He will talk for 45 min­utes which will be fol­lowed by a 45 minute ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion.

More than half the tick­ets for this event have al­ready been sold be­fore it has of­fi­cially gone pub­lic.

Tick­ets cost £20 – plus a £1.40 trans­ac­tion fee.
