GENEROUS people have made hundreds of local children happy this Christmas by ensuring they have presents to open.

Hundreds of Chesham children who would have gone without a present this Christmas will now have something to open, thanks to Chesham Toy Bank.

The toy bank was the brainchild of Claire Rooney, who set it up last year to help the 500 children in Chesham who may not receive a present because they are living below the poverty line.

This was the toy bank’s second successful year.

Following an appeal, thousands of gifts suitable for newborns to 17-yearolds were donated to the toy bank, which was this year based at Unit 5, Power House, Higham Mead, Chesham.

It was open to struggling parents and carers from December 14 to 18. They could go there to pick gifts for their children and get them wrapped for free.

The toy bank then opened its doors to the public on December 19 when anyone could go in and buy a gift for a financial donation.

One Chesham company was so impressed by the toy bank’s efforts to give every child a happy Christmas that it stepped in with a very generous offer.

Co-founders of Chesham-based design and print company The Creator Lab Saad Mahmood and Adil Hussain, both 22, were moved by the idea that some parents could not afford toys for their children.

Saad said: “Our company was founded on shared values and giving back to our community is a big part of that – helping causes regardless of religion, colour or ethnicity.

“Just the thought that we have helped put smiles on the faces of parents and children means Adil and I are already having a brilliant Christmas!”

Saad and Adil are giving 10 per cent of all profits from the middle of November until Christmas to Chesham, Toy Bank.

The duo also popped into the toy bank to hand over some toys as part of their donation.

Mrs Rooney, who won the Pride of Bucks 2015 Community Champion award for setting-up the toy bank, said: “It’s fabulous how many businesses want to help local children. The Chesham Toy Bank team is very grateful to The Creators Lab for their super-generous offer.”
