Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

A SEVEN-year-old girl was on cloud nine after meeting her hero, the chess world champion Magnus Carlsen, recently.

Lilly is a junior chess player at The Gerrards Cross CofE School, on Moreland Drive, and in November won all of her games at a competition organised by the rotary club.

She recently went to the London Classic, labelled as the most prestigious international chess event, where she got Mr Carlsen’s autograph.

Mr Carlsen has appeared on BBC One’s The One Show and is set to make an appearance on CNN.

Vassos Gergiou, who coaches the youngster, said Lilly was delighted to meet Mr Carlsen, and called her ‘our local hero’, adding she could be a rising star.
