Harriers sparkle both individually and in teams
CHILTERN Harriers had an excellent Bucks County Championships on Saturday – with individual wins for Angus Williams (U13 boys), Will Perkin (U17 men) and Nick Hughes (Vet 40 men) and team wins for the U13 boys and junior women.
In a good show of the overall strength of cross country at the club, the U13 girls, U15 girls, U15 boys, U17 men, senior men and veteran men were all second placed in their age groups too. There were also silvers for Orla Williams (U13 girls), Tom Hunter (U13 boys) and Rachel Padwick (U17 women), and bronzes for Millie Hughes (U13 girls), Robyn Watkins (U15 girls), Hannah Thear (U17 women) and James Repper (vet 40 men).
Orla Williams and Hughes’ efforts, as well as a ninth place finish from Abbie Henderson, helped the U13 girls tie for second place with Wycombe Phoenix behind Keynes on 17.
Angus Williams and Hunter’s 1-2 was the foundation of the U13 boys’ success, with Thomas Job fourth and Zach Rahaman seventh to complete the scoring.
Both Chiltern U15 teams finished in second place, the scorers for the girls being Watkins (third), Soraya Lockwood (seventh), and Beth Welham (10th), and Ben Smith (fifth), Cameron Reid (seventh), Tommy
Milton Davies (11th) and Ethan Hague (14th) for the boys. The junior women packed well, with Rachel Padwick (second U17), Hannah Thear (third U17), and Maddy Lacey (fifth U17) combining to be the winning team.
Perkins’ win set up the U17 men for second, with Richard Slade also running well to be fourth and the scoring completed by Will Brown in 10th and Rob Hall in 12th.
The senior men had a variety of ages out, and the scoring six who achieved second place were Simon Beedell (fourth), James McCarthy (fifth), Nick Hughes (eighth), James Repper (15th), Peter Gould (19th), and Alastair Melville-Smith (25th).
The vets team of Hughes (gold), McCarthy (bronze), Melville-Smith and David Breingan were also second, while Martyn Cartwright was fourth in the Vet 60 age group.
The senior women had a small team out, but the threesome of Ellie Bates (ninth), Natalie Baker (21st) and Barbara Ralph (24th) ensured third place. Nathan Hackley also had a very good run to be fourth in the Middlesex Championship U13 boys race at Wormwood Scrubs.
