Plan for re­tire­ment flats is sub­mit­ted

A CAR show­room could soon be de­mol­ished and turned into ac­com­mo­da­tion for the el­derly, if new plans get the green-light.

McCarthy and Stone has sub­mit­ted an ap­pli­ca­tion to Chiltern District Coun­cil to turn CSG Mo­tor Com­pany, in The Broad­way, Old Amer­sham, into 41 flats of as­sisted liv­ing ac­com­mo­da­tion for the el­derly with as­so­ci­ated com­mu­nal fa­cil­i­ties, park­ing and land­scap­ing.

The one and two bed­room apart­ments will in­clude ac­cess to an on-site care team 24 hours a day, a restau­rant and din­ing room of­fer­ing a cooked meal 365 days a year as well as guest ac­com­mo­da­tion.

De­spite the ap­pli­ca­tion be­ing sub­mit­ted, CSG Mo­tor Com­pany is re­as­sur­ing cus­tomers it is still open for busi­ness.

A state­ment on the com­pany’s Face­book page says: “CSG Mo­tor Com­pany would like to re­as­sure all of our cur­rent and po­ten­tial fu­ture cus­tomers that we are NOT clos­ing and will be con­tin­u­ing as we are at our cur­rent site in Old Amer­sham for the fore­see­able fu­ture.... in fact un­til 2017 at the VERY least! We’re still here.... and still very busy! We hope to see you all soon!”

The ap­pli­ca­tion has been sub­mit­ted fol­low­ing two rounds of meet­ings with the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

The first meet­ing was held on Septem­ber 25, 2015 at The Crown, di­rectly op­po­site the pro­posed site, and con­sisted of a se­ries of 30 minute ‘one-to-one’ meet­ings with neigh­bours and lo­cal coun­cil­lors.

A se­cond meet­ing was held on Oc­to­ber 14, 2015 at Al­fred El­lis Hall in the Amer­sham Free Church.

This meet­ing was a pub­lic ex­hi­bi­tion for coun­cil­lors, key stake­hold­ers, and res­i­dents of the wider vicin­ity who were in­vited to view, dis­cuss and pro­vide feed­back on a more de­vel­oped set of the pro­pos­als that were on dis­play.

A de­ci­sion is ex­pected to be made by April 13.
