Patient helps to pick superdraw winners
A HOSPICE patient was honoured when he was asked to help select the winners of a charity superdraw.
South Bucks Hospice patient Malcolm Fisher was delighted to be asked to press the button to start the annual Hospice Lottery Partnership Christmas Superdraw on Tuesday, January 19 at South Bucks Hospice.
The Hospice Lottery Partnership (HLP) raises funds for six local hospices including the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, Rennie Grove Hospice Care, The Hospice of St Francis, South Bucks Hospice and Michael Sobell Hospice.
Five lucky winners were drawn with the top prize of £5,000, donated by DOCTORnow, being won by Mrs Fitzgerald from Ruislip.
The winner used volunteer at one of
to the partner hospice shops and is hoping to return shortly.
She said “I joined the lottery because it is a fantastic way to help raise valuable funds for local hospices, I never expected to win and was delighted to receive the call – I still can’t believe it.”
After the initial shock had worn off, Mrs Fitzgerald said she hopes to go on a holiday to the Canaries to find some winter sun and also treat her two sons.
Strongly supported by many people in the local community, the Superdraw raised £49,158, meaning the real winners are the local patients at each of our six member hospices.
This money, which is additional to the weekly draw, could fund the salary of a specialist hospice nurse for 18 months.
HLP has in total, given its partners more than £8m since it was formed in 1997.
