Den­ham’s U14s girls reach Peo­ple’s FA Cup fi­nal

DEN­HAM United Ladies’ U14s reached the FA Cup fi­nal at the week­end! Yes, you read it cor­rectly – but this was the Peo­ple’s FA Cup.

The tour­na­ment is de­signed for any player, from Sun­day League clog­gers to dis­abil­ity foot­ballers, to play in their own ver­sion of the world’s old­est com­pe­ti­tion, in a whole range of cat­e­gories. Den­ham en­tered two teams, cap­tained by Tilly Wil­son and Court­ney Wool­ley, one of which reached their cat­e­gory fi­nal, only to lose 1-0.

How­ever, not even that de­feat spoiled a great day out for the girls, which was capped by be­ing in­ter­viewed by the BBC.

The U15s were also in cup ac­tion, knock­ing Kemp­ton Girls U16s out of the Cap­i­tal Girls AFA County Cup 2-0 to book a semi-fi­nal place against ei­ther Spurs or En­field.

It took a 25-yard strike from mid­fielder Katie Akerman to break the dead­lock, be­fore Kayleigh Cur­rivan made it 2-0, and not even a missed penalty thwarted Den­ham’s progress. Player of the match went to Kodi Spencer.

The U12s, how­ever, went down to the only goal of the game against league lead­ers St Joseph’s, de­spite hold­ing out un­til 10 min­utes from time. Player of the match went to Zara Butt.

In the se­nior sec­tion, a Krys­tal Clarke dou­ble, plus fur­ther strikes from Megan Payne and Rachel Black­burn, saw the re­serves book a county cup quar­ter-fi­nal spot with a 4-0 win over Cam­den Town.

The se­nior de­vel­op­ment squad, mean­while, were in sev­enth heaven, ham­mer­ing Colne Val­ley Re­serves 7-2 thanks to braces from Lau­ren Cox, He­len Capewell and Nat Mur­ray, as well as a Vicky Birkby strike.
