Man dies in lay-by col­li­sion

A MAN has died fol­low­ing a col­li­sion with a heavy goods ve­hi­cle parked in a mo­tor­way layby.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for wit­nesses fol­low­ing the crash at the A40 Western Av­enue, Den­ham.

The in­ci­dent took place at about 3am on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 2 when a white Skoda Oc­tavia, trav­el­ling east­bound on the M40 where it merges with the A40, col­lided with a heavy goods ve­hi­cle which was parked in a layby.

The driver of the Skoda, a man in his 30s, who was the only per­son in the car, died at the scene.

The lorry driver was not in­jured.

The road was closed in the area while emer­gency ser­vices at­tended the scene. Driv­ers were ad­vised to take al­ter­na­tive routes to avoid con­ges­tion caused by the in­ci­dent.

PC Ju­lia Stroud, of the se­ri­ous col­li­sion in­ves­ti­ga­tion unit, said: “The cause of the col­li­sion is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion and we would like to speak to any­one who saw the col­li­sion or who saw the Skoda trav­el­ling prior to the in­ci­dent. If any­one has any in­for­ma­tion, please con­tact po­lice to speak to the se­ri­ous col­li­sion in­ves­ti­ga­tion unit.”
