A CHESHAM-BASED tuition company is offering courses to support homeschooled pupils.

The courses focus on English and maths tuition, as well as GCSE English and preparing for the Eleven Plus exam in Buckinghamshire.

Flying Start Tuition Founder Sian Goodspeed, a former teacher, believes there is a real need for support for parents of home-schooled children.

Latest estimates have put the number of children who are being home educated in the UK at around 50,000.

Ms Goodspeed, who home-schools her own daughters, said: “There are many advantages to home education, but it takes a lot of time, effort and energy.”

She said there were many reasons families chose to home educate, including bullying and religious, philosophical, health or cultural reasons.

Some mums, who enjoyed teaching their children during the early years, are simply keen to continue this journey when the child turns five, says Ms Goodspeed.

The Flying Start Tuition courses are planned and designed around the children in each group, considering each child’s individual learning style and uniqueness.

The tutors will use a range of traditional and modern teaching methods, technology and techniques from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to help the children become independent, lifelong learners.

Courses run each week during term-time in small group sessions lasting 90 minutes.
