Gerrards Cross widen the gap with emphatic win
HAVING nudged ahead of thirdplaced Wycombe SRC in the Bucks Squash League Division One, secondplaced Gerrards Cross widened the gap this week with an emphatic win over their rivals.
Michael Burnett and Stewart Heffernan won the first two games 3-0, and although Adam Pyne replied with a 3-0 triumph for Wycombe, Steve Wright won 3-1 and Trevor Loran 3-2 to seal a 16-6 Cross victory.
Leaders Aylesbury Grammar School thumped Beaconsfield Lions 18-5 to extend their lead at the top to 48 points, with Uxbridge moving up to third, while Holmer Green’s 16-8 win over Chesham Bois 1a pushed the Lions to the bottom.
Elsewhere, a curious Division Two match between a lacklustre Wycombe Drifters and Chesham 1879 saw five resounding wins in a real see-saw encounter. Firstly, Neil Hollister won 3-0 for Chesham, followed by Jon Ould 3-0 for Wycombe. This pattern continued with Gavin Lund coming up trumps 3-0 for Chesham, followed by Rob Wallace 3-0 for Wycombe.
Jacob Sutton maintained the symmetry with another 3-0 win for Chesham to seal a 13-6 victory, which was enough to overtake RAF at the bottom of the pile.
At the top, Chesham Bois Mavericks stayed at the summit with a 17-5 win over Beaconsfield Bulls, while their clubmates, the Tigers, are starting to bare their teeth, beating a spirited Farnham Common 13-6 to maintain second place with two matches in hand.
