Youngsters join in sign2sing and learn to reach out
PUPILS at a Chesham school helped support deaf awareness by taking part in an annual event.
Elmtree Infant and Nursery School in Elm Tree Hill, Chesham, once again took part in the annual sign2sing event, to raise money and awareness of SignHealth – a Beaconsfield-based charity which raises funds to help vulnerable deaf children and adults.
Children learnt a specially written song called Reach Out Your Hand and its simple signs to perform along with.
The pupils performed the song at the school’s weekly Well Done assembly on February 5.
Headteacher Daphne Dru said: “Elmtree Infant and Nursery School is proud to take part in the annual sign2sing event. As a school which uses Makaton signing to support our pupils, it is important to us to support deaf awareness every year. We are fortunate our music teacher, Ellie James, is able to teach the children the song and the signs, and teachers practise the song in their classes.”
