THE FORCE IS WITH PINEWOOD
FILMING on the next Star Wars blockbuster has started at Pinewood Studios.
Star Wars Epsiode VIII, which does not yet have a subtitle, will follow on from The Force Awakens, which smashed box office records around the world since it was released to critical acclaim in December.
Pinewood is playing host to all the new Star Wars films, with the Force Awakens also having made use of the famous site in Iver Heath.
For Episode VIII, JJ Abrams is making way in the director’s chair for Rian Johnson, with principal photography having begun on Monday, February 15.
Returning cast members will include Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn and Daisy Ridley as Rey.
Other stars returning for the film will be Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis.
Fans have been excited to note that the cast list for the new film includes Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro and Jurassic Park star Laura Dern, as well as newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
The roles played by the new stars have not yet been announced.
A short clip posted on the official Star Wars website implies that the film will follow on immediately from the end of The Force Awakens, in which Rey found Luke Skywalker living the life of a recluse on a secluded island.
JJ Abrams will take on the role of producer for the new film. No other details have yet been released as to the film’s plot, and it is unknown when the first trailer for it will be released.
The blockbuster is set for a worldwide release on December 15, 2017. In the meantime, fans will be able to get their Star Wars fix, when Rogue One, a separate Star Wars story which was also filmed at Pinewood, is released in December this year.
