Run returns with new route
THE NINTH Gerrards Cross Fun Run will take place on Sunday May 22 with a new route and chip timing.
The biennial event will start at the Memorial Centre before finishing on East Common, with the route altered around the roads to remove the pinch points. New for 2016, organisers will also be utilising chip timing for the start and finish in order to accurately record times.
Anyone from eight years of age can run the 5k race, and there will also be childrens’ races for four-to-nine-year-olds.
Each 5k runner receives a race T-shirt, medal, water and goody bag, and entrants in the children’s races all earn a fun run medal.
Sue Hatrick, chair of the organising committee, said she is looking forward to the day, which also includes a ‘quintessentially English’ fair on East Common, but it will be her last run on the committee.
She said: “It’s exhausting but it’s great fun. It’s the biggest community event in Gerrards Cross. It’s established and it’s part of Gerrards Cross now.”
She added: “It’s really good. It’s nice to bring the community and businesses together, having fun while raising money for charity. It’s a nice event and it’s a very happy event. It’s a lovely thing to do.”
The fair includes a barbecue, beer and Pimms tent, tea and sandwiches, live music with three local bands playing a set and a bouncy castle, assault course, tombola and many more, and weather permitting, classic cars.
This year the event will support Kids in Sport, Medical Detection Dogs and the committee has also elected to donate £1,000 to the Elizabeth Voaden Foundation.
Online registration opens tomorrow (Friday February 26).
