Causer eyes crunch battle as key to Cross promotion
absentees from the regular line-up as the league leaders surrendered a twogoal lead en route to defeat.
With promotion rivals Harrow and Wycombe 3rds both winning, all margin for future error has gone and Causer admits his team already have half an eye on a crunch battle with the latter in two weeks’ time which should decide their fate one way or the other.
“It will probably come down to the result of that game now,” he said. “If we lose that we’re stuffed.”
Such a scenario did not look likely early on as Cross made light of their numerous absentees with Alex Cole’s double firing them into a 2-0 lead.
However, perhaps missing some vital experience, they pressed for a third to kill the game off and ended up letting Wokingham back in.
“I think the result was in the main down to availability,” added Causer.
“What with half-term and everything we probably only had six regulars with the rest made up of players brought in from the 2nds and 3rds. We’ll be back to full strength from now on and if we put out a full team we are a good side.”
“It is in our hands and if we keep on winning we’ll get promotion.”
Meanwhile, the Ladies 1sts remain fourth in the three Counties League Division One following a 2-2 draw with Oxford 4ths.
