PREPARATIONS are well under way for one of the biggest events in the Chiltern Open Air Museum’s calendar.

Museum bosses are gearing up for the annual Chiltern Warrior fun run – a 5k or 10k obstacle course in which 250 people took part in last year.

More than £7,000 was raised for the museum last year as runners braved the rain and mud to slip and slide around the woods and fields, often in fancy dress and warrior outfits.

This year’s race, which takes place on Sunday March 13, sees an entirely new and fiendishly challenging 3D spider web as part of the course, which takes its places alongside the natural obstacles which are staggered throughout the site of outstanding natural beauty and the adjoining Woodland Trust property.

Some runners are also raising sponsorship to support other local good causes, including The Chiltern Society and Beating Bowel Cancer.

Museum director Sue Shave said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to enjoy one of the best fun sporting events in the area and help to support a good cause at the same time.

“Every entry helps us fund the wonderful work of our unique museum with its historic buildings rescued from the local area.

“Come along and run among our historic buildings, woodland walk and historic farm, complete with sheep, chickens, goats and heavy horses. It’s wild, muddy good fun.”

There are still spaces available for competitors to sign up and run, or you can support the museum by volunteering as a marshall, helping to encourage participants and ensure that the event runs safely and successfully. Contact George Hunt at volunteering@coam.org. uk for more details.

You can also run as part of a team, and the run is suitable for experienced runners, as well as those who are just starting out.

People can decide to run either the 5k or 10k and each participant receives a free medal.
