Southern champs Dr Challoner’s lose out in nationals
Jamie Bristow, who left the school 2012, was making what will probably be his last outing in the fixture as vicecaptain of the Cambridge team, while Mark Lilley, having left in 2014, was making his first appearance for the Oxford side. In a tight game, Bristow scored Cambridge’s first goal, and Lilley was involved in setting up Oxford’s in what ended up as a 2-1 win for the Light Blues.
Head teacher Dr Mark Fenton said: “Remarkably, this is not the first time that two of our old boys have appeared on opposite sides of the same Varsity match. It is a tribute to the great standard of hockey in the school which has developed under first XI coach Richard Ambrose. Mark and Jamie are both terrific ambassadors for the school, and I wish them every success in the future.”
