BUCKS joined more than 1,000 communities around the country to raise the flag for Commonwealth Day on Monday.

Chairman of Bucks County Council Bill Chapple raised the flag in front of Old County Hall, in Aylesbury Market Square, at 10am, celebrating a day marked by 53 countries worldwide.

Mr Chapple said Buckinghamshire was proud to be part of a celebratory day that would be marked by a third of the world’s population.

Mr Chapple said: “This gives the community the opportunity to express appreciation for the Commonwealth, and the values of co-operation and understanding between our nations.”
