Pupils show off their French flair
AN ANNUAL speaking competition attracted 23 schools to St Mary’s School in Gerrards Cross on Thursday March 10.
The French verse speaking competition for local schools is said to not only foster a love of learning new languages, but also promotes invaluable life skills.
Mrs Stuart-Lee, prep department French teacher, who organised the event, said: “We were thrilled to welcome so many enthusiastic children to the competition.
“Fostering a love of learning new languages at such a young age is a key means of developing, not only the obvious language skill and awareness of different cultures, but also of promoting lateral thought and focus, which are invaluable life skills.
“The competition is a valuable opportunity for children to rise to the challenge of learning a poem in French and reciting it in front of a large audience.”
Organisers said the event was a huge success and was enjoyed by participants and spectators alike with the croissants and coffee and prizes for the winners.
