Terrific Chesham Prep U11s claim double trophy win

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

A BRILLIANT 24 hours for Chesham Prep School’s U11s rugby team saw them producing some terrific performances to claim two trophies.

It all started last Friday, when the Colts 7s squad assembled at Beechwood Park to take part in a tournament we had won the previous two seasons.

With expectations high, they started brightly with 30-0 wins over both Aldwickbury and York House, before Beechwood Park were beaten 40-5 and Westbrook Hay seen off 25-0 as Chesham topped their group.

The semi-final against Kingshott was somewhat tougher, and they had to rolling their sleeves up after falling behind to win 20-5 and reach the final, where they met Westbrook Hay again.

There, two fast tries gave Chesham an early lead which they never relinquished and there was a double dose of deja-vu as they repeated the 25-0 scoreline to land the trophy once more.

The following day was the St Benedict’s School 7s and confidence was again high, which was evident in the nine unanswered tries they scored in beating Claire’s Court 45-0 in the first game.

The hosts were then beaten 25-0 before St Mary’s ran them closest any of the teams had yet, Chesham needing a late try to win 15-5 following a St Mary’s comeback.

Knowing an improved performance was required, Chesham combined some excellent defence and creative attacking play to beat St Columba’s 20-0 in the next game, before seven unanswered tries in their final group game against St John’s saw Chesham win 35-0 to finish top.

The final pitted them against another team from Claire’s Court and after scoring straight from kick off, Chesham cut loose to run out 30-0 winners.
