Academy celebrates double win at school team finals
THERE was a double success for Chalfont St Peter Cof E Academy at the National School Team Gymnastic Finals.
The Penn Road-based school were representing the South of England alongside the region’s other qualifiers, Stokenchurch, at the event in Stoke.
Performing at the highest level, there was a particularly good showing from the mixed team, who helped the South of England win gold ahead of the West Midlands and North of England.
Up against 19 other teams, they triumphed in a tight contest which saw teams finish within 10ths and 100ths of a point of each other.
The young boys team, meanwhile, ensured the success story continued by landing bronze, cheered on by proud parents.
table tennis teams warmed up for their national regional final clashes in Bournemouth and Bristol by beating Farnham Common in their final district table tennis fixture of the season.
A very closely fought battle saw the match tied at two wins apiece with one game left to play, when Sonny Dalston held his nerve to strike two wonderful passes across the net and win 11-9.
A special mention must also go to Luca Mailey, who stepped in at the last moment for the injured Oliver Evans and won her match.
Elizabeth Underwood said: “We are very proud of the performances of our teams. A special thank you to Mr Underwood for his continued hard work, time and enthusiasm for coaching our gymnastics and table tennis squads, and to the parents for their wonderful support.”
