THANKS ASWORK ON HOSPICE GATHERS PACE
JO WOOLF Chief Executive Officer, South Bucks Hospice AS work on our fantastic new community hospice gathers pace, it’s only right I spend a moment thanking all the individuals and organisations who have backed us so magnificently.
All donations, however large or small, are so appreciated by our staff and patients. There are far too many to mention, but here are just a few highlights in the last year: Wycombe Abbey School has donated more than £19,000; Huntswood Golf Club has given us over £17,000; and Karen’s Big Smiles has raised £15,000 for us.
And, yes, there are so many more stories like these, so thanks to each and every one of you. Even the smallest donation makes a massive difference. The new £4.8m Hospice in Totteridge, High Wycombe, will open in 2017 and be of huge benefit to patients with life-limiting illnesses across south Buckinghamshire.
Despite the vast efforts of our many wonderful supporters, we still need help in getting us over the line in terms of fundraising. Not only do we have the new Hospice to complete and fit out, we also have the basic daily running costs to pay for. Less than five per cent of the money required to run the specialist services South Bucks Hospice offer comes from the NHS. The other 95 per cent has to be raised by fundraising and donations.
In April, we have 47-year-old photographer Matt Fowler running three marathons on consecutive weekends for us – yet another example of the incredible support we receive in the community.
