WI mem­bers en­joy a day of dis­cov­ery

As well as the dis­plays of flow­ers, veg­eta­bles, cook­ery and flo­ral ar­range­ments, there will also be a raf­fle and teas avail­able.

As part of Na­tional Earth­lings Day on Thurs­day, April 14, venues across the UK are host­ing screen­ings of Earth­lings, a doc­u­men­tary ex­plor­ing hu­mankind’s de­pen­dence on an­i­mals for eco­nomic pur­poses, look­ing at pets, food, cloth­ing, en­ter­tain­ment and re­search.

Fol­low­ing a na­tion­wide crowd-fund­ing cam­paign, Che­sham has been cho­sen as one of the lo­ca­tions to re­ceive back­ing.

The screen­ing will be held in the Lown­des Room at Che­sham Town Hall on Thurs­day, April 14.

Doors open at 6.45pm and the film will start at 7pm.

Au­di­ence mem­bers will be of­fered £5 as well as a goodie bag con­tain­ing eth­i­cally-sourced food and drink.

The or­gan­is­ers will be avail­able at the end of the screen­ing to an­swer ques­tions.

La­timer and Ley Hill Par­ish Coun­cil will hold its An­nual General Meet­ing at Ley Hill Methodist Chapel on Mon­day, April 25 at 7.30pm.

Lo­cal is­sues will be raised and at­ten­dees have the chance to meet their par­ish coun­cil­lors and ask ques­tions.

La­timer and Ley hill Par­ish Coun­cil has or­gan­ised an event to take place to mark the Queen’s 90th birth­day.

A Vil­lage Bea­con Light­ing will be held on April 21 from 7pm on Ley Hill Com­mon.

At 7.05pm there will be a grand pa­rade of guides and scouts. At 7.15pm there will be a bless­ing and the singing of God Save the Queen be­fore the bea­con light­ing at 7.30pm.

There will be free glow sticks for chil­dren, spon­sored by Che­sham and Ley Hill Golf Club, as well as a bar­be­cue out­side The Crown.
