Now is the time to plan for community event

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

PREPARATIONS are underway for a town event which organisers hope will be bigger and better than ever.

For more than 20 years, the Beaconsfield Society has run Beaconsfield Now!, an annual event bringing together charities and not for profit organisations in the town in order to showcase their work and recruit members and volunteers.

The event is held on the green outside the Town Hall and is aimed at people of all ages. The date for this year’s event has been set for Saturday, June 18 at 11am. Attractions are set to include a bouncy castle and other amusements for young children.

Traditionally, Beaconsfield Fire Station brings along a fire engine which children are allowed on board, while St John Ambulance usually bring along a model to allow people to practice resuscitation.

The scouts and guides provide refreshments, and a local celebrity, yet to be confirmed, will open the event alongside the mayor and town crier Dick Smith.

It is hoped that this year, the event will prove more successful than ever before following feedback from last year’s extravaganza.

A statement from the organisers said: “Last year, the town council green was full participants and we asked them to complete a questionnaire to make 2016 even better.

“Feedback for the last few events has been very favourable. However, on considering the views gratefully received from the questionnaire, we have made some changes we think you will appreciate.

“In particular, we have decided to have a central marquee that will accommodate most of the participants. It should also provide a more inviting space and lead to improved sound reinforcement.

“There will also be space for gazebos around the edges of the green.”

The final closing date for registration for those wishing to appear at the event is May 6.
