One down in runners epic triple challenge
‘The Bald Runner’ takes on three marathons in aid of hospice appeal
impressed by Mr Fowler.
“He’s braver than me I think,” he said, as he helped hospice staff publicise the triple marathon.
Mr Fowler, who is currently working abroad, flew back to the UK in time to get to the start line in Manchester, where was aiming to complete the 26.2 mile course in under three-and-a-half hours.
And he hopes the public will back him in raising thousands for hospice patients.
He said: “It will be tough but so worth it if I am able to raise a lot of money for such a worthwhile cause. The charity is building a new community hospice in Totteridge right now and needs every penny it can get to help give the best possible care to patients.
“This will spur me if I hit the wall during any of the races, because I know I need to do my very best to help these patients who rely on the public’s generosity.”
Dignitaries have also backed The Bald Runner.
The Chairman of South Bucks District Council Councillor Duncan Smith said: “I wish Matt good luck in his runs.
“It took me three months training to do a recent half marathon and a good week to recover. So to do the full distance three times requires dedication and commitment. I hope he receives great sponsorship on behalf of the South Bucks Hospice.”
