RE­TIRE­MENT house builder has en­cour­aged peo­ple over 60 in Bucks are be­ing en­cour­aged to prove they are the county’s most colour­ful char­ac­ter.

McCarthy and Stone, which as de­vel­op­ments in Den­ham, Bourne End and Wen­dover, is launch­ing a con­test to find and recog­nise colour­ful char­ac­ters aged over the age of 60 who are still liv­ing life to the full.

Peo­ple with un­usual hob­bies or who re­main ac­tive in their re­tire­ment are en­cour­aged to get in touch.

The win­ner of the con­test will be se­lected by a panel of judges in­clud­ing TV star Ar­lene Phillips, and will re­ceive a £100 Red Let­ter Day voucher. Re­gional win­ners will then go head-to-head with each other in a pub­lic vote on Face­book to find a na­tional win­ner. Elaine Strat­ford, from McCarthy and Stone, said: “McCarthy and Stone is run­ning this com­pe­ti­tion to cham­pion those colour­ful char­ac­ters in Bucks and to cel­e­brate their at­ti­tude to life dur­ing re­tire­ment.

“We meet colour­ful char­ac­ters at our devel­op­ment ev­ery day and we want to high­light that life doesn’t end when you re­tire.

“We’re look­ing for­ward to re­ward­ing our win­ner with a trip of a life­time cour­tesy of Saga Hol­i­days so it’s def­i­nitely worth tak­ing the time to ap­ply.”
