Sophisticated poetry review rewarded

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SCHOOLS NEWS -

A CHESHAM student won an award in a national poetry competition.

Antonia Bush, a year 12 student at Chesham Grammar School, impressed the judges of the 2016 T.S. Eliot Poetry Competition Shadowing Scheme, run by emagazine in collaboration with the Poetry Book Society, with a sophisticated response to Selima Hill’s most recent poetry collection Jutland.

Her review was Highly Commended for the insight she demonstrated into the ways in which Hill’s poetry uses sparseness of language and minimalistic expression to create hauntingly beautiful effects which explore the fragility and intimacy of personal relationships.

Assistant subject leader for English at Chesham Grammar School Andrew O’Sullivan said: “We are enormously proud of Antonia and extremely grateful to Selima Hill. together with her publishers, Bloodaxe, for so kindly taking the time to send Antonia a copy of her collection, inscribed with a personal note congratulating her on her success.”

Commended: Antonia Bush with her award
