Ex-England star Lewsey returns ‘home’ to coach
FORMER England and British Lions international Josh Lewsey returned to Amersham & Chiltern RFC on Sunday for the minis’ annual end-of-season prize-giving.
Lewsey who helped England win the Rugby World Cup in 2003, played mini and junior rugby at Amersham & Chiltern before going on to play his senior rugby at Wasps.
He spent a couple of hours at his former club, lending a hand with the last coaching sessions of the season before handing out medals.
Club chairman Spike Stevens said: “It was great to see Josh back at the club, and it was a fantastic experience for our young players to meet someone who started out just like them and went on to win the most prestigious trophy in rugby. Our mini and junior sections currently have more than 800 boys and girls, and it would be fantastic if some of them were to follow in Josh’s footsteps.”
This season, A&C have had three players in the England U17 Academy, while 11 A&C boys were also in the starting line up for Dr Challoner’s Grammar School as they won the NatWest Schools U15 competition at Twickenham.
