BIG-HEARTED shoppers have been thanked after helping to raise more than £1,000 for charity.

Macmillan Cancer Support collected £1,138 thanks to the generosity of shoppers in Sainsbury’s in the town centre, as well as people in Station Road during collections on April 1 and 2.

Chairman of the Gerrards Cross and Buckinghamshire South fundraising group, Liz King, said: “In Buckinghamshire, an average of 11 people every day are diagnosed with cancer.

“This is a significant sum of money as £1,014 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support, and we thank everybody who stopped to drop some money into our collection buckets.”
