U11s win league decider to take trophy

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

IT WAS Chalfont St Peter CofE School’s U11 boys’ football team’s turn to bring home the silverware after winning their league decider against rivals Stoke Poges.

Chalfont went into the game not only knowing that the winners would take the title, but also with a score to settle, having lost out to the same opponents in the cup. A goal down at half time, the boys had to dig deep, and not long into the second half the balance seemed to tip into Chalfont’s favour – so it was little surprise when the ball was volleyed home from a corner for the equaliser.

With their tails up, Chalfont won it midway through the second half with a shot curled into the top corner from the edge of the area, a goal worthy winning any game, never mind a title.

Head teacher Elizabeth Underwood said: ”We are absolutely thrilled to have won the league to round off the season’s successes.

“A huge thank you to our coach, Josh Briant, who many years ago used to himself be a member of our football team – and is still bringing success to the school.”
