Council in £65k bid to aid town parking
SOUTH Bucks District Council (SBDC) is to invest £65,000 in solving the parking problems in Gerrards Cross.
But it will not submit any plans to extend Station Road car park just yet, despite admitting the need to do so.
Mike Lawson, chairman of the highways committee at the town council, welcomed the money but stressed the ‘desperate’ situation in the town and urged the council to do it quickly.
He said: “That sounds not a bad plan, but how long is it going to take? It needs to be done quickly because the parking situation is desperate. I often get people coming up to me saying I can’t park.”
At a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday April 20, councillors discussed the need to address the ongoing problem.
The policy advisory group had previously recognised the need to increase the capacity from the current 122 spaces to keep up with demand.
A spokesperson for South Bucks District Council said: “It has become increasingly evident that Gerrards Cross is in need of more off-street parking.
“We have agreed to defer making a decision on the planning application now and invest £65,000 to look thoroughly into the best possible solutions.”
