The first Amersham Martyrs Guided Walk of 2016 takes place on Saturday.

It will start at 2.30 pm at the Amersham Museum, High Street, Old Amersham.

The history walks follow on from the huge success of the martyrs play in March and are led by guides in Tudor costume.

They usually last about two and a half hours but short cuts are possible, and you will visit various places of relevance to the martyrs, including a climb through the fields to the martyrs memorial.

The walk returns, via a different route, to the Old Town.

All this is put in the context of everyday life in Amersham in the early 1500s – the work and housing, food and drink, markets and fairs, sickness and cures. You will also learn the origins of some everyday expressions – why do the weak go to the wall?

All are welcome and no booking is necessary.

It costs £2.50 for adults and children go free.
