Keen and Harvey on top in Down Un­der con­test

RAY Keen and Nathan Harvey were the win­ners of this year’s Aus­tralian Pairs com­pe­ti­tion at Che­sham Bowls Club and are pic­tured re­ceiv­ing the tro­phy from or­gan­iser Chris Harvey.

This fol­lowed a week­end in which Che­sham en­ter­tained Lon­don Welsh on Sun­day and won a close game 116-114, with a top rink of Eileen Perry, Colin Ware, Howard Cave and Richard Free coming up trumps 27-15.

Lon­don Welsh al­ways choose Che­sham for their first game of the sea­son, and their club pres­i­dent, Barry Tottman, said he thought his side would not play on a bet­ter green all sea­son.

That vic­tory made up for a nar­row two-shot loss the pre­vi­ous day against Bov­ing­don, who they lost to 98-96, de­spite a top rink of 29-15 from Martin Black­man, Pauline Squire, Mike Bai­ley and Alan Cohn.

Che­sham’s ladies also had a win­ning start to their sea­son, beat­ing Amer­sham 63-43, with Gill Hen­der­son, Jackie Bate­man and Jean McNab tak­ing top rink honours 29-6.
