Keen and Harvey on top in Down Under contest
RAY Keen and Nathan Harvey were the winners of this year’s Australian Pairs competition at Chesham Bowls Club and are pictured receiving the trophy from organiser Chris Harvey.
This followed a weekend in which Chesham entertained London Welsh on Sunday and won a close game 116-114, with a top rink of Eileen Perry, Colin Ware, Howard Cave and Richard Free coming up trumps 27-15.
London Welsh always choose Chesham for their first game of the season, and their club president, Barry Tottman, said he thought his side would not play on a better green all season.
That victory made up for a narrow two-shot loss the previous day against Bovingdon, who they lost to 98-96, despite a top rink of 29-15 from Martin Blackman, Pauline Squire, Mike Bailey and Alan Cohn.
Chesham’s ladies also had a winning start to their season, beating Amersham 63-43, with Gill Henderson, Jackie Bateman and Jean McNab taking top rink honours 29-6.
