Six year stewardship of parish was a ‘privilege’
LITTLE Chalfont Parish Council has a new chairman after the man who held the role for six years decided to stand down.
Councillor Brian Drew decided not to stand again for the position this year and a new chairman, Councillor Gill Roberts, was elected at a parish council meeting on Wednesday, May 11.
Mr Drew will however remain as a parish councillor.
Mr Drew has played an active role in Little Chalfont for several years.
He was chairman of the Little Chalfont Revitalisation Group, one of the founders of village day and he helped organise this event for the first six years from 2004 to 2009.
Along with others, he successfully campaigned for a sperate Little Chalfont Parish Council and has subsequently served on it since it was formed in May 2007.
He was appointed vicechairman in 2008 and chairman in September 2009 after the previous chairman, Francis Wilkinson, moved away from the village.
During his time as chairman Mr Drew has achieved many things, including helping to design and secure funding for the popular play area in Westwood Park, the installation of the war memorial in 2014, promotion of the idea for a new community centre for the village and being a supporter of the creation of a nature park.
Mr Drew said: “It has been a privilege to have been chairman of the council for over six years and I would like to thank the staff and all my fellow councillors for their support during this time.
“I am sure Gill Roberts will prove to be an excellent choice as chairman and I wish her well in that role.”
In the village newsletter, Councillor Roberts wrote: “It’s with some excitement, but mainly trepidation, that I’ve taken on the role of the chairman of Little Chalfont Parish Council.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Brian Drew for over six tireless years of dedication to the role.
“He’s led the council to achieve many things in that time and I’m glad he’ll remain as a parish councillor so that his invaluable experience will not be lost to the village.”
