Inspectors’ good report for improving pre-school
The group scored ‘Good’ ratings across the board – effectiveness of the leadership and management’, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare’, and outcomes for children. Catering to children aged two years to three, the playgroup is based at the Cricket Pavillion, near Bowstridge Lane. The inspection was carried on March 23 this year, and in the summary report managers were ruled to have ‘strong systems for self-evaluation, performance management, and training to improve the provision and staff practice. They have raised standards in practice since the last inspection and enable children to make good progress in their learning’.
The report also reads: “Children participate in a wide range of stimulating activities. They develop good social, physical and communication skills, including those who are learning English as an additional language. Children are well prepared for the next stages of their learning.”
It was not judged to be outstanding yet because ‘staff do not consistently reflect on all aspects of children’s individual backgrounds or home lives in their play, to help them make further progress’.
Carrie Swallow, one of the leaders, said: “We are delighted to get our ‘Good’ grade back. The team work very hard to ensure the playgroup is the best it can be, ensuring a happy, safe environment for all.”
