South Bucks Comets break Herts to win play-off final

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

COMEBACK kings South Bucks Comets have become Bucks Junior Basketball League U12s champions after coming from behind in the play-off final.

It could not have been a closermatched showdown than against a West Herts Warriors side who Comets had won and lost against, both by narrow margins, in the regular season, and who they had only lost out on top spot to by virtue of a couple of points scored.

And so it proved in a see-saw encounter, Comets taking a first quarter lead and Warriors a second quarter lead, only for the scores to be level at half time thanks to scores from Alex Steet, Michael Daniel and Vinnie Dunn for South Bucks.

Warriors then led by a single point going into the final quarter, but an incredible defensive display from Henry Kite and Roxy Mathea restricted them to just one more point, while at the other end, Joe Martin’s rebounding and points from Daniel and Alex Street ensured the Chalfont St Peter side took the title 23-19.

Earlier, in the semi finals, Comets comfortably beat Shenley Scorpions 31-13 thanks some great passing by Jack Holt, which enabled Martin to score 13 of his side’s points, while some the fast breaks of Will Martin and defensive hustle of Charlie Lewis were also a joy to watch.

Also in the South Bucks team are Fred Buckingham, Christian Wright, Callum Patterson and Billy Grief-King, while the coaches are Darren Lewis, Paul Holt and Ray Creed. Anyone interested in playing should email coachray@ southbucksbasket
