Zaib’s efforts in vain against Wiltshire

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

UNICORNS TROPHY Wiltshire ................................................ 192 all out Bucks .................................................... 171 all out Wiltshire won by 21 runs DESPITE two superb performances from High Wycombe teenagers Uzair Amjaid and Saif Zaib (pictured), Bucks lost by 21 runs to Wiltshire on Sunday to miss out on qualifying for the quarter-finals of Unicorns Trophy.

Victory would have assured Bucks a place in the last eight, and this looked a distinct possibility when they dismissed Wiltshire for 192 at Chesham CC.

Leg-spinner Amjaid captured 4-26 from his 10 overs as Wiltshire slipped from 111-1 to their eventual total, made in 48.4 overs.

Zaib, who is on Northants’ books, led Bucks’ reply with a superb 89 from 111 balls with two sixes and seven fours.

But he lacked support, with only skipper Michael Payne (28) making more than 20 as Bucks were all out for 171 in 45 overs.

While Saif was at the crease, Bucks had a chance, but he was ninth out at 170 and Bucks lost shortly afterwards.

They now have a three-week wait before the Championship season gets under way, starting against Bedfordshire at Wardown Park, Luton, on June 19.
