Make sure you’re registered for EU vote
WITH the EU referendum fast approaching, Chiltern District Council and South Bucks District Council are urging residents to make sure they are registered to vote by midnight on the June 7 deadline, and to check the Electoral Commission’s voting guide for advice on how to take part.
The referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union will take place on Thursday, June 23.
The voting guide, containing important information for voters on how to register to vote, is being delivered to households, and the councils are also distributing it via libraries, parish councils and local community groups to ensure it reaches as many residents as possible.
Local counting officer for Chiltern and South Bucks Bob Smith said: “There is a great deal of interest in the EU Referendum and we want to make sure that everyone who is eligible to take part, is able to do so.
The voting guide contains all the information needed to ensure everyone eligible can take part on the June 23 referendum.
“Don’t forget that you won’t be able to have a say if you aren’t registered to vote by midnight on the June 7, so I’d encourage anyone not already registered to do it online now at www.gov.uk/ register-to-vote. And if you have a holiday booked for the June 23, remember you can always do a postal vote but you’ll need to apply by 5pm on June 8 to do so.”
Voters who are already registered to vote are reminded that they do not need to register again. Anyone already registered will have received a poll card by May 25.
