Double the fun for church
ST Michael and All Angels church, in Amershamon-the-Hill, is inviting the community to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday and its own 50th birthday on Sunday (June 12).
The church, in Sycamore Road, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and the festivities begin with an evening Eucharist centred around Mozart’s Mass in D.
Chiltern Hundreds Bach Choir and Chorleywood Chamber Orchestra will perform the Mass as part of the 6.30pm service, which will begin the celebrations of 50 years since the current church building was dedicated, as well as marking a recent refurbishment of the church organ.
St Michael’s new vicar Rev Debbie Oades said: “There’s something very special about hearing the glorious music of a Mozart Mass in the context for which it was composed – as part of a Eucharist.
“This will be a very special way of celebrating the refurbishment of our magnificent organ, as well as the Golden Jubilee of our church building.”
The anniversary celebrations will continue in September with a special exhibition to be held in the church, looking back at its history and the role it plays today at the heart of the local community.
Other events will be announced in due course.
