Birthday concert to reign supreme
PEOPLE are being invited to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday by attending a concert this weekend.
Amersham Town Council has organised a Queen’s 90th Birthday Concert to take place in the Memorial Gardens in Old Amersham on Sunday (June 12) from 2pm to 5pm.
The Amersham Music Centre will open proceedings before vocalist Vanessa Bowers and pianist Shelia Cornall document the Queen’s life through song – from her parents falling in love, her childhood and resilience during the Second World War, her coronation and more.
There will then be a Royal British Legion service before the Aylesbury Concert Band play the final set which culminates in a ‘last night at the Proms’ finale with lots of flag waving and singing. The concert, which is in aid Dementia UK, will close at 5pm with a dove release.
Cream teas will be available throughout the afternoon while members of the Amersham Society will be serving cakes from the past nine decades.
Amersham Town Council will also be officially opening the 2016 Memorial Gardens display at the event, which includes a three meter high crown and a floral stamp. 2.30pm to 3.10pm - Amersham Music Centre 3.10pm - Opening of the event by Amersham’s mayor Makr Vivis
